The IUP Diversity Action Plan was approved yesterday by the Council of Trustees at a meeting at the NorthPointe Campus.
The plan has been one of the projects of the President Michael Driscoll’s Commission on Diversity and Inclusion, and some of the themes that come from the plan include developing and implementing protocol for early response or intervention in the IUP community when discriminatory incidents come up, establish multiple ways to report incidents, developing clear mechanisms for resolving disputes, and engage IUP community members in cross-cultural activities and provide on-going training that will promote a climate of civility. Driscoll said that he was happy the plan was approved by the council, but it’s just the start. He said that it was now time to put the principles of the plan into action.
In other business, the new fee increases brought up at the December 14th council of trustees meeting were approved as were three proposals for tuition rates that would, in the words of Council of Trustees President Sam Smith, make the university more competitive. The proposals establish a flat per-credit tuition rate for domestic out-of-state undergraduate students of 145% of IUP’s in-state undergrad per-credit rate, a range of 145% to 250% for undergraduate international students, and an 80% rate for undergraduate in-state students who are admitted to IUP’s regional campuses in NorthPointe and Punxsutawney.
