Homer City Post 493 split a doubleheader yesterday, losing the first game to Hempfield but winning the nightcap over Blairsville.
Homer City couldn’t keep up with Hempfield East in a 13-5 loss in game one. After Post 493 took a 3-1 lead on a Michael Dolan two-run single and a balk, Hempfield put up six runs in the second inning, then added five more in the third. Dolan, Gage Thompson, Jon Cribbs, and Braden Dunn each had hits for Homer City but their best offensive weapon was the walk. They drew ten in the game.
Post 493 rebounded for a 12-2 win over Blairsville in the second game. Tied at 2 going into the bottom of the third inning, Homer City scored the next 10 runs to put the game away, scoring two runs in the third and breaking it open with six runs in the sixth. The big blow was a three-run doble by Adam Cowburn. Michael Krejocic got the win, going five innings, giving up two unearned runs, striking out five and walking two. Garret Minnick threw a shutout inning in the sixth. Tristan Redinger and Nick Love each had two hits. Post 493 drew seven walks, with Krejocic getting three.
