Two people were arrested following an incident of theft Wednesday afternoon in White Township.
State police from the Indiana barracks say 38-year-old Steven Allen Bushaw and an unnamed 52-year-old man, both from Indiana, were arrested following a chase that ended at the Dollar General in Indiana Borough.
Troopers were dispatched to investigate a string of thefts that included a sledgehammer and a mailbox from homes along Miller Avenue around 12:24 p.m. and encountered the two men as they were driving a vehicle in the area. They caught up with them in the Dollar General parking lot and Bushaw fled on foot after it was discovered that he had an active warrant out of Armstrong County. Troopers say he resisted arrest following a brief chase, but was eventually taken into custody.
Bushaw was arraigned before District Judge Susanne Steffee on misdemeanor charges of theft by unlawful taking, resisting arrest, and evading arrest or detention on foot, along with summary charges of disorderly conduct and criminal trespass. His preliminary hearing is set for July 11.
The other man was allegedly operating the car while under the influence of a controlled substance. He was taken into custody and later released. Charges are pending the results of a blood test.
Troopers assisting on scene also clarified that they were not aware of any firearm drawn in the parking lot.
