Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. and State Police from the Indiana Barracks have released more information on the vehicle crash that killed one person Tuesday morning.
Overman identified the victim as 22-year-old Kohl Michael Beatty of Indiana. State police say the accident happened on South Sixth Street Extension about a mile south of the intersection with Lucerne Road. 65-year-old James Ivory of Marion Center was driving a coal truck south when he came across a downed tree, and came to a complete stop and activated the truck’s hazard lights. As he waited for clearance in the northbound lane to go around the tree, Beatty came down and rear-ended the truck.
Beatty was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. Overman added that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time. His official cause of death was ruled accidental due to blunt force trauma.
State police and the coroner’s office were assisted by the Indiana and Homer City Fire Departments and Citizens’ Ambulance on-scene.
