The Pirates yesterday claimed right-handed pitcher Ashton Goudeau off waivers from the Colorado Rockies and designated former first-round draft pick Will Craig for assignment in order to make room for Goudeau on the 40-man roster.
Goudeau was originally chosen by the Royals in the 27th round of the 2012 draft. He was one of four pitchers traded to the Mariners in 2018 for a dollar. He made his major league debut last season and pitched in four games for the Rockies, allowing seven earned runs in 8-and-a-third innings. He’ll compete for a bullpen spot with the Pirates.
The first-baseman Craig was the Bucs’ top pick in the 2016 draft and made his big league debut last season. He was 0-for-4 at the plate. In his four minor league seasons, Craig has a career batting average of .259 with 51 home runs.
If no one claims Craig within 10 days, the Bucs can assign him to the minor leagues, trade him, or release him.
