Eight fire companies, including Blairsville, battled a fire that caused severe damage to a home in Derry Borough yesterday morning. A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
Westmoreland County 911 got the call at 8:39 AM and activated Derry firefighters, along with Bradenville, Blairsville, Darlington, Latrobe, Ligonier, Lloydsville, and Youngstown.
No one was home but several pets perished in the flames. The family recently moved into the home at 720 East First Avenue. The fire had migrated into the walls by the time firefighters arrived. One firefighter was treated at the scene by paramedics.
