The White Township Supervisors last night approved a draft ordinance to help firefighters and other emergency personnel access commercial buildings.
At last night’s meeting, the Supervisors approved a draft of the Knox Box ordinance, which would require commercial buildings in the township to have the device on the exterior of the buildings. The Knox box is a safe that would be on the outside of the building that only emergency responders would have a key to. Inside that safe would be a set of keys to the building’s front door and any other areas that would need access in the event of an emergency. Fire Chief Paul Koons proposed the ordinance to the supervisors, and said that it makes things easier if those doors were easily accessible by key instead of having to break a door down.
In other business, the supervisors got an update on their DCNR Grant for S&T Bank Arena renovations. Arena director Ryan Shaffer said support has been given by several entities including hockey and soccer clubs that use the arena on East Pike Road, a fitness group, and several other letters of support are expected to come in. The renovations will go to a lot of structural and mechanical aspects in the building, including a dehumidifier on the ice rink.
