The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection says that a drought watch will remain in effect for all of Pennsylvania.
The watch was first announced last week. While significant rainfall has been recorded over the last week, it’s not been enough to lift the watch. The DEP says that drought declarations are determined by four statistics: stream flow, groundwater levels, precipitation and soil moisture.
The Indiana County Municipal Services Authority sent messages to its customers recently reminding them of the advisory and reiterating a request from the DEP to voluntarily cut back water use by 5 to 10%. A mandatory water use cut has not been put in place yet. A similar request was made by Homer City Borough Manager Robert Nymick on June 6th during the Homer City Borough Council meeting.
