The Pittsburgh Pirates have decided to part ways with pitcher Trevor Williams and utility man Jose Osuna as they were designated for assignment and pulled off the 40-man roster on Friday.
They were eligible for contract arbitration and the two were not likely to be tendered. Williams’ promising first few years fell to pieces this past season as he went 2-8 with a 6.18 ERA over 11 starts. Osuna had three doubles, four homers and 11 RBI’s in 26 games during the shortened 2020 season.
To fill their slots on the Roster, the bucs added infielder Rodolfo Castro and right-hander Max Kranick to their 40-man roster. The two spent the short season with the taxi squad in Altoona.
The move protects the two players added to the roster from the upcoming Rule 5 draft.
