Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate continues to go down as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
The Department of Labor and Industry announced today that the October seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 7.3 percent, a full percentage point lower than September’s rate. That falls in line with the national unemployment rate, which also went down a full percentage point to 6.9 percent.
Comparing the state’s unemployment rate to last year at this time, October 2020’s rate is 2.9 percentage points higher than in 2019, while the national rate is 3.3 percentage points higher than last year.
Over the last six months, the state has recovered 56.3 percent of the non-farm jobs lost in March and April at the start of the pandemic. The total number of non-farm jobs in October was at 5,662,100, an increase of 18,800 jobs. The largest monthly volume gain was in the trade, transportation and utilities super-sector, which went up 7,300 jobs.
Indiana County’s unemployment data for October will be released later this month.
