The Clymer Borough council heard from a local pastor about efforts to feed hungry kids this summer.
Reverend Kendra Balliet of the Clymer United Methodist Church addressed the board on an effort to feed needy youth at no charge. Balliet said members of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank brought the opportunity to local pastors, as the Bank is seeking sites to host the lunches and serve the foods:
“We would be called a site, as in a site where they would come and do it, have the food. And, we’re not preparing the food, we’re picking up the food and taking it to the church, and then serving the kids.”
Balliet said the program would run throughout the summer, with the Clymer Church of the Resurrection, Clymer Presbyterian, Clymer Alliance, and First United Methodist Churches currently on board as host sites:
“We’re looking at maybe three weeks of hosting for each of those four churches… We’re going to run it in the summer, hopefully every weekday in the summer for lunch. We’re looking at 11:30 to 1 o’clock.”
For more information or if you’d like to volunteer, Balliet can be contacted at 724-254-4000. (Volunteers must have proper State clearances).
In other news, the board approved the second annual Move It For Memorial Day 5k Run/Walk organized by Anew Home Health and Crossbridge Physical Therapy, which will take place on Saturday, May 26th.
Lastly, Easter at Sherman Park is slated for Saturday, March 24th at 1’clock, with an egg hunt for kids in 6th grade and under.
