At Thursday Night’s Homer-Center School Board Meeting, the board approved changing the district calendar and switching to a virtual learning format for four days in December.
Under the revised calendar, November 23rd would become an Act 80 day, meaning students need not attend classes, and November 24th would become a vacation day, with April 6th, 2021 being used as a make-up day. The board also approved making December 1st through the 4th virtual learning days. Superintendent Curtis Whitesel said that the district is following the strong recommendation of the PA Department of Health.
As a part of the motion, the board has the option to extend the virtual learning period by one week if necessary.
The board also suspended the start of the winter sports season to December 7th.
In other business, the board approved the certificate of substantial completion from CNC Construction concerning the high school theater access renovations. The board also heard from the Pennsylvania School Board Association as they recognized board member Jim McLoughlin for serving on the board for the last 14 years.
