Indiana County President Judge William Martin has scheduled a motions hearing today for 21-year-old Matthew Darby, the Greensburg man charged with rape here and with murder in Allegheny County.
Darby’s attorney, David Schrager, has filed motions seeking a gag order and a change of venue for his trial on charges that he raped his former girlfriend, an IUP student, in February of last year.
In Allegheny County, he’s accused of killing another former girlfriend, Alina Sheykhet, last October at her apartment near the University of Pittsburgh. He was captured in South Carolina days after Sheyhket was beaten and stabbed to death.
In Indiana County, Darby is charged with rape, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, and indecent assault.
There are actually three separate criminal cases against him in Allegheny County. The charges for Sheykhet’s murder include criminal homicide, burglary, and related offenses. He also has a criminal trespass case against him, and a rape case involving a 17-year-old girl.
