Members of the faculty union at IUP have passed a resolution in support of scholastic and college students who choose to participate in a national walkout of classrooms tomorrow.
Students across America will walk out of class for seventeen minutes at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning in a protest to advocate for stricter gun control laws. The seventeen minutes represent one minute for each of the seventeen students killed February 14th in the Parkland, Florida school shootings.
The IUP APSCUF resolution calls on university President Michael Driscoll to not take into account any negative marks students might receive for taking part in the walkout. It reads, “IUP-APSCUF supports any student who chooses to protest said gun violence. Further, IUP-APSCUF requests our university president instruct the office of admissions that no protest or walkout for school safety resulting in negative marks on a current high school student’s record will be taken into account in their application for admission to IUP.”
