A brush fire in Center Township on Monday brought out six fire departments along with Citizens Ambulance.
Indiana County 911 reported that the first call went out at 12:33 PM for a property on Old Route 56 West in Center Township. Homer City Fire Department was called out initially to the farm of John Wyant, and then requested additional manpower and water from Indiana, Aultman, Coral-Graceton, Black Lick and Blairsville fire departments.
Homer City fire officials say about three acres of cornfield were burned in the fire, and while it was intense for a while, the extra water and manpower came in handy and they were able to knock the fire down before it did any more damage. The fire was caused by someone burning trash nearby and the wind taking a bit of that fire to the cornfield.
No injuries were reported.
