In Indiana County Court today, three of the cases against James Eugene Brown of Rossiter will come to a close with his sentencing by Judge Thomas Bianco on two counts of felony retail theft and misdemeanor conspiracy to theft by deception.
The 35-year-old Brown pleaded guilty to those charges on the same day he was sentenced to serve up to 12 years in state prison for homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, causing an accident resulting in death while under license suspension, and driving while impaired while suspended. He was the man who was at the wheel of a car that crashed into Pikel’s Top Tier Fuels in Home in July of 2018, running over a gas pump and smashing into a building. A woman working inside the gas station, Melissa Myers of Commodore, was killed when she was trapped in the flames that erupted after the crash. Brown admitted he had taken heroin and smoke marijuana before the crash.
The charges for which he is being sentenced today all occurred when he was free on bond in the homicide by vehicle case. He has yet another case yet to be adjudicated. He’s charged with felony forgery and two counts of misdemeanor theft for an incident in May of this year.
Also scheduled to be sentenced today are:
- 48-year-old Thomas Mettee of Indiana, for terroristic threats.
- 56-year-old Edward Harold Pearce of Commodore, for simple assault.
- 20-year-old Brandon James Dunseath of Indiana, for arson of an unoccupied building.
