Some losses sting more than others, and this one hurt the Pirates last night, falling to the Cubs after building a four-run lead. Joe Block has the recap.
The series concludes tonight at Wrigley Field, with the Pirates’ right-hander Johan Oviedo (3-5, 4.16 ERA) facing Cubs righty Marcus Stroman (7-4, league-leading 2.42 ERA). It’s a 7:40 airtime on WCCS.
The Pirates promoted Osvaldo Bido from Indianapolis to start last night. To make room on the roster, outfielder Canaan Smith-Njigba was sent back to Indy. Bido struck out six in his four innings and gave up only one run. Roansy Contreras was charged with the loss after giving up five earned runs in the sixth inning. The bullpen surrendered nine runs in the game.
