A bill authored by State Representative Jim Struzzi concerning state police has been introduced in the state house.
House bill 1149 will lift the artificial compliment cap on the maximum number of state troopers allowed by law. In a statement from Struzzi, increases in gang and drug violence have placed a burden on state police, which is spending more time in areas that they had not been in previously. He added that there is also a rising number of small communities that depend on the state police to enforce the law as they have no local police force. The issue on the number of troopers came up during the House Appropriations Committee hearings with state police Commissioner Colonel Christopher Harris.
The bill been assigned to the House Judiciary Committee.
