After OTAs ended last week, the Steelers open up their mandatory three-day minicamp today at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. This is the third and final phase of offseason workouts before the team reports to St. Vincent College for training camp on July 26th.
For captain and veteran All-Pro defensive lineman Cam Heyward, it’s a chance to continue mentoring his young teammates on the defensive side of the ball, but he says it’s also an opportunity for him to sharpen his game.
Heyward has been impressed with the mental approach of the rookie class, which includes two Wisconsin Badgers: second round draft pick defensive lineman Keeanu Benton and fourth round linebacker Nick Herbig.
The minicamp will also give coach Mike Tomlin a look at his new defensive secondary, featuring cornerbacks Patrick Peterson, Joey Porter Jr., Chandon Sullivan, and Corey Trice and safety Keanu Neal joining returning safeties Minkah Fitzpatrick and Damontae Kazee and cornerbacks Levi Wallace and James Pierre.
Tomlin will also be watching the progress of a rebuilt offensive line, with first round draft choice Broderick Jones and three newcomers who formerly played with the Philadelphia Eagles: Isaac Seumalo, Nate Herbig, and Le’Raven Clark.

The Jacksonville Jaguars could be trading in turf for track. Team officials say Daytona International Speedway could be a temporary home for the Jags when two billion dollars in renovations begin at TIAA Bank Field after the 2025 season.
