Indiana County’s school districts continue to deal with covid-19 on a daily basis. Yesterday, Indiana Area reported another positive test at East Pike Elementary School, while United and Blairsville-Saltsburg are also working through the protocols for cases in their districts.
At Indiana, superintendent Michael Vuckovich says the newest positive test involves a staff member, and is the third case in three days at East Pike. Two of them are staffers, and one is a student.
Vuckovich writes in a posted letter on the districts website that they “are not entirely sure whether or not this case is related to at least one of the previous cases.” The district will remain open for in-person classes because it still is within the guidelines of two to four cases that could result in a three-to-seven day closure. Contact tracing is underway to determine who if anyone must enter quarantine. Several students were sent home yesterday as a precaution. Vuckovich says a temporary closure could occur at East Pike or any school if cases continue to rise.
At United, the district says the Department of Health has informed it of a confirmed case of covid-19 in a student at its elementary school. Contact tracing is ongoing and the Department of Health has not imposed any restrictions on school activities.
In a letter published on the Blairsville-Saltsburg district website on Monday, acting superintendent Charles Koren says they were informed last Friday that a staff member at the Blairsville Elementary School had tested positive. Other staff members and the families of students who were exposed have been contacted.
Koren writes that there will be quarantine restrictions involving those who have had close contact with the infected person, who was in the school for a few days last week, but at this time, the school will operate as usual, and deep cleaning of all district buildings continues.
