Local health experts are offering reaction to Pennsylvania being put under a Code Red Air Quality Alert.
Under this type of alert, air quality conditions are considered unhealthy for everyone, and more severe side effects can be seen in vulnerable populations, such as the young, elderly, or those with preexisting medical conditions. Experts also suggest that the poor air quality stems from the influx of wildfires in Canada.
Dr. Rohit Metha, a pulmonologist at the Indiana Regional Medical Center, said some symptoms that could result from overexposure are shortness of breath, wheezing, and coughing. He adds that the air could lead to those dealing with preexisting pulmonary or cardiac diseases could develop worse symptoms.
Metha offered some tips for dealing with the current air conditions. Those are to avoid exposure, especially in younger or elderly individuals with lung conditions or heart disease, and to stay indoors until the air quality clears up.
The haze is expected to continue into Thursday. Your Hometown Radio Stations will have updated Accuweather forecasts on-air and online.
