On top of the air quality concerns, the recent string of sunny days and lack of rain has made things ripe for brush fires.
The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement that says that the continuing dry conditions along with the wind expected this afternoon will create an elevated risk of wildfire spread across all of Western Pennsylvania. This will remain in effect until 8:00 tonight. The minimum relative humidity will range between 25 and 35 percent are expected today, along with wind gusts between 15 and 25 miles an hour.
Indiana Fire Association Assistant Chief Ron Moreau says that while the concerns of the start of spring with dry grass are gone, conditions today are especially ripe for a brush fire.
Residents are advised to exercise caution if handling potential fire starters, including cigarettes, machinery or matches, as if dry grasses, shrubbery or tree litter begins to burn, the fire will have the potential to spread rapidly.
