Inspired by the return of hobbled quarterback Kenny Pickett, Pitt walloped Florida State on the road yesterday, 41-17, snapping the Panthers’ four-game losing streak.
His left ankle heavily bandaged, Pickett was 21-for-27 for 210 yards and even managed to limp for a 9-yard touchdown run, and the Panthers’ defense picked off three passes. Florida State led, 14-3 but Pitt took advantage of stopping the Seminoles on fourth down twice in the second quarter, taking over the ball at the Pitt 48 and the Florida State 40, with the offense scoring after each stand.
Penn State was shocked by Maryland, falling, 35-19, for the Nittany Lions third straight loss to start the season.
Taulia Tagovailoa threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns for the Terps, who also scored after picking up a fumble by Penn State QB Sean Clifford.
