The College Football Hall of Fame has released its annual list of nominees for this year’s class, and once again, IUP’s Lynn Heiber is on it. The 1974 and ’75 All-American led Division II in total offense in ’75 and was the ECAC Player of the Year. He held seven IUP records upon his graduation.
Frank Cignetti and Jim Haslett are IUP’s only members of the College Football Hall of Fame.
Also among the nominees for the Hall of Fame are Pitt quarterback Matt Cavanaugh, running back Craig “Ironhead” Heyward, and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald; Penn State running backs Ki-Jana Carter and D.J. Dozier along with Nittany Lions linebacker Paul Posluszny; and three former Steelers: linebacker Levon Kirkland, who played at Clemson; wide receiver Antwaan Randle El, who was a quarterback at Indiana, and tackle Ted Peterson, who played at Eastern Illinois
Former Slippery Rock coach George Mihalik and former West Chester and Bloomsburg coach Danny Hale are on the list of coaching candidates.
