While it isn’t snow, the wet winter will continue for Indiana County as a weather watch is now in effect for the county and for the region.
The National Weather Service out of Pittsburgh has announced that Indiana County is once again under a flood watch through Sunday evening. Local streams remain very high at this point and the ground is very saturated. New rainfall amounts between 1 and half and three inches is possible for the weekend. The flood watch in effect will cover the whole county along with some of the surrounding areas in the region, but a flood watch is in effect for rivers in the region, including the Conemaugh River at Seward in Indiana and Westmoreland Counties. Both flood watches are set to expire tomorrow afternoon or night.
Earlier this year, the area took on some heavy rainfall and the Conemaugh River at Seward rose to 14 feet, well above flooding levels. By 1:00 today, the National Weather Service says the river will go up to 9.2 feet, just over the boundary for the action phase of the river.
The National Weather Service asks everyone to monitor forecasts throughout the day and be as alert as you can for flood warnings. If you live in an area prone to flooding, you are prepare to take action should flooding develop.
