UPDATE: Braheen Acres was sentenced to serve 9-30 years in a state correctional facility, along with court costs.
A number of defendants will be sentenced today in Indiana County Court, and even more will plead and be sentenced in cases mostly related to drunk driving.
Among those scheduled to be sentenced is 23-year-old Braheen Acres, who was originally on last month’s schedule, but received a continuance. Acres was captured after a crime spree in Indiana Borough in September of 2016. He broke into an apartment in the 800 block of Wayne Avenue and sexually assaulted a woman who’d been sleeping on a couch, and later in that same hour, police were called for a burglary in progress a block away. Acres had fled by the time the police arrived, but they noticed an open door on another residence and found Acres inside. He was caught after he tried to escape through a second-floor window but couldn’t get himself off the roof.
A jury last May found Acres guilty of aggravated indecent assault, three counts each of burglary and criminal trespass, and two counts each of theft and harassment.
Three other defendants have already pleaded guilty in DUI cases and will be sentenced. Twenty-one others will plead guilty and be sentenced.
