The Penguins have their man, announcing this morning that they have hired former Toronto general manager Kyle Dubas as their new president of hockey operations. According to a Penguins release, Dubas “will oversee all aspects of the Penguins hockey operations department including establishing the strategic vision and philosophy for the franchise.”
Technically, Dubas holds the same job title as Brian Burke, who was fired along with general manager Ron Hextall on April 14th. The team has not said whether it intends to hire a second person as GM or if Dubas will perform those duties.
The 37-year-old Dubas joined Toronto as assistant general manager in 2014 and has been the GM for the last five seasons. The Maple Leafs announced last month that his contract would not be renewed after their exit from the playoffs.
