The Major League Baseball Gold Glove winners were announced yesterday and neither of the two Pirates up for the awards won.
Adam Frazier lost out to Cardinals’ second baseman Kolten Wong, and Jacob Stallings was edged by the Reds’ Tucker Barnhart at catcher. The other winners in the National League were the Cubs’ Antony Rizzo at first base, his teammate Javier Baez at shortstop, the Rockies Nolan Arenado (his eight straight) at third base, Cardinals left fielder Tyler O’Neill, Padres center fielder Trent Grisham, Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts, and Braves pitcher Max Fried.
The American League Gold Glove winners are Seattle Evan White at first base, Cleveland’s Cesar Hernandez at second, the Mariners’ J.P. Crawford at short, and the Rangers’ Isaiah Kiner-Falefa at third. Kansas City’s Alex Gordon, who retired at the end of the season, won his eighth Gold Glove in left field, the White Sox’ Luis Robert won in center, and the Rangers’ Joey Gallo won in right field. The catcher is Cleveland’s Roberto Perez and the pitcher is Griffin Canning of the Angels.
Pirates bench coach Don Kelly has reportedly had a second interview for the Red Sox’ manager’s job and is one of five finalists, according to multiple sources. The others are former Bosox manager Alex Cora, who was fired after his suspension for his involvement in the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal; Sam Fuld, who was with the Phillies last season as an “information coordinator”; Marlins bench coach James Rowson, and Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza.
