For the first time in state history, mail-in ballots outside of absentee ballots were accepted for a general election and Indiana County is still tabulating those mail-in votes.
Indiana County Commissioner Sherene Hess said that about 12,000 mail-in ballots were sent out, and about 10,000 of them were returned prior to election day. Hess added that the county’s poll workers got through only a portion of the ballots on Tuesday.
The mail-in ballots have not yet been added to the totals from yesterday’s general election. Once those votes have been added in, the votes will need to be certified before the results are official. The mail-in ballot count resumes Wednesday morning at 8:00.
