State police say one person died in a crash on Route 22 in Burrell Township Monday afternoon.
Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. identified the victim as 61-year-old Leroy Durant, Jr. of Johnstown . Durant and another 61-year-old man from Johnstown were going east on 22 in a 2005 Buick Lacrosse at 2:28 PM. As the vehicle approached Palmer Road, Overman said that the car crossed from the left-hand lane to the right lane and started to fishtail. The car went off the road, rolled several times and landed on its roof.
Durant was partially ejected from the vehicle through the sunroof. The other occupant was thrown from the vehicle.
State police say that the other occupant was flown from the scene to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center for treatment of major injuries. At last check, his condition was critical. Neither Durant or the other man were wearing seatbelts. State police have not released the name of the other victim.
Route 22 east was closed for about six hours as the Troop A Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialist unit processed evidence and reconstructed the crash. Black Lick and Blairsville fire departments and PennDOT crews assisted on the scene.
