The Blairsville council approved a payment on a local demolition contract at Tuesday night’s meeting. And, two county fire departments may be joining forces.
Ab Dettorre of the Blairsville Council said that the Blairsville and Blacklick fire departments will soon begin working together on a dual-call basis:
“Well truthfully, it’s not the law of the land yet. But, there’s work going on through emergency management, through the chiefs and so forth, that’s going to probably put us in a dual-call situation for everything. But I think it reflects upon the mutual respect and the fact that we have good leaders on both sides. And today, with the shortage of man-power, its easy to tell one or the other ‘You don’t have to show up,’ but you’re better off having a lot of soldiers coming when you need them, instead of not enough.”
Dettorre spoke to the strengthening of the relationship between the departments and the maturity of their leadership:
“I like our relationship right now. I think it’s the best its been in years, and I only see it getting better.”
In other business, the council approved a change order for the Walker building demolition contract to reflect concrete sealant needed for the exterior of the remaining structure, at a cost of $2,100. A payment to contractor Ligonier Construction for the ongoing work was subsequently approved in an amount totaling $70,234.50.
