Pirates GM Ben Cherington continues to make moves as he reshapes the roster in the offseason. The Bucs declined the $11 million option on pitcher Chris Archer over the weekend and designated reliever Nick Burdi for assignment as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. Reliever Dovydas Neverauskas was also DFA’d.
The Pirates reinstated pitcher Jameson Taillon to the 40-man roster, along with pitchers Michael Feliz and Clay Holmes, infielder Phillip Evans, and outfielder Anthony Alford.
