The snowy weather that hit the area over the weekend contributed to a number of accidents on area roadways, and state police have issued a batch of reports detailing many of them.
Two Westmoreland County residents were injured early yesterday in a crash on Route 22 outside of Blairsville in Derry Township. Police say 24-year-old Dylan Walkin of Latrobe was driving too fast for conditions when his Ford Mustang slid on the slush into the concrete barrier separating the directional lanes, hitting it twice. Walkin suffered nose and back injuries and Robert Kinney of Greensburg suffered back injuries.
Police say two people were injured Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Ben Franklin Road North in Armstrong Township. Police say a northbound vehicle driven by 36-year-old Cathaleen Rieger of Indiana crossed the center lane and hit the southbound vehicle of Dennis Sobin of Homer City. Rieger fled the scene but was later found at the YMCA. She’d suffered a small cut to her nose. Sobin was not hurt, but his passenger, Michelle Sobin, is listed as having possibly been injured.
22-year-old Carl Bush of Pittsburgh and his passenger fled on foot yesterday morning after Bush’s car slid into a traffic sign on Wayne Avenue, north of Route 119. Police say the car was left in the median strip, about seventy feet away from where it had impacted the sign.
57-year-old Brian Cote of Nanty Glo escaped injury yesterday morning when he lost control of his big rig on Route 56 in Brush Valley Township, hitting a road sign, a metal wire fence, and a utility pole before sliding into a ditch.
No one was injured Saturday night in a crash along Route 286 in Montgomery Township. Police say 33-year-old Chris Thornton of Rural Valley slid off the highway in the slush, hitting a tree.
23-year-old Stanley Bacone of Indiana and his passenger escaped injury Saturday night when their car slid off snow-covered Wayne Avenue in White Township, striking a raised concrete block planter at the entrance to the Quality Inn.
Police do not identify the 17-year-old girl whose car struck a tree after sliding off Route 422 in Cherryhill Township on Saturday evening. The girl was not injured.
22-year-old Madison Ophaug of Indiana was uninjured late Saturday afternoon when her Jeep traveled off Route 110 in Rayne Township, striking a drainage culvert.
53-year-old Joseph Davis of Johnstown escaped injury Saturday morning when his car hit a patch of ice and impacted the guiderail alongside Route 403 at Grange Hall Road in East Wheatfield Township.
21-year-old Randy Blystone of Punxsutawney was unhurt Saturday afternoon when his pickup truck slid off route 210 in North Mahoning Township, hitting a utility pole.
