As the holiday weekend gets underway, Triple A reports that gas prices on the national and statewide levels have increased over the last few days.
The national average this morning is $3.58 a gallon, which is up four cents since Tuesday but still eight cents cheaper than last month. Last year at this time, the national average gas price was $4.76 a gallon. The reason for the rise in gas prices is due to the increase in demand, which normally occurs during the Memorial Day driving period, but experts say the spike will be short-lived.
Pennsylvania’s average is $3.69 a gallon, which is four cents more than Tuesday’s average. It’s three cents more than last week but seven cents cheaper than last month. One year ago, the statewide average was $4.76 a gallon.
Indiana County’s average remains at $3.72 a gallon, placing it in the middle of the six-county region. Armstrong County has the highest at $3.76, while Clearfield County has the lowest average at $3.65.
Gas prices in Indiana, Homer City, Clymer and Blairsville range from $3.65 to $3.72 a gallon.
