Indiana Area School District Superintendent Michael Vuckovich announced that another probable case of Covid-19 has been reported at the Junior High School, but the school will not close at this time.
The district was notified around 5:00 PM on Tuesday of the “probable positive” case. The student was in school on Thursday and Friday of last week, but was not in school on Monday or Tuesday due to the hybrid model of education. One other student who was in close contact was contacted by School Health Services and the state Department of Health is currently working with the school nurse on the issue.
This marks the second active case at the Junior High that the district is aware of, but Superintendent Vuckovich is recommending that the school stay open at this time. He said that this new case is not related to the other current case, meaning they did not have close contact, ride the bus together and were not involved in the same extracurricular activities. The decision to stay open also falls in the guidelines the district established in the district’s safety plan where a range of 2-4 active cases could result in a 3-7 day closure.
The district will continue with deep cleaning procedures to make sure impacted classrooms are sanitized.
