The area’s softball season came to a close yesterday when Marion Center bowed out of the District 6 Double-A playoffs with a 4-0 semifinal loss to top seed Bald Eagle Area. Bald Eagle pushed across a run in the second inning and three more in the fourth, and limited the Stingers to just two hits, a single by Lydia Miller and a double by Lexi Roush.
Portage plays Harmony this afternoon in the District 6 Class A baseball semifinals.
TRACK & FIELD
A large contingent of Indiana Area and Heritage Conference athletes will be at Shippensburg University this weekend for the PIAA track & field championships. Among those who will be there:
In girls AA:
- Defending state champion Justley Sharp of Homer Center, River Valley’s Emily Jackson, and Cambria Heights’ Minyhan Easterling in the shot put, and both Sharp and Jackson will throw discus.
- Portage’s Cami Burkett in the 100 and 200 meters.
- Marion Center’s Lydia Miller and Purchase Line’s Rachael Ward in the 400 meters
- Marion Center’s Reagan Ryen in the 800.
- Cambria Heights Brielle McMillen in the long jump.
- The Marion Center and Purchase Line girls 4-by-800 meter relay teams.
For the boys AA:
- Penns Manor’s Justin Marshall in the 100 meters
- United’s Josh Martin in the 300 hurdles
- Portage’s Bode Layo in the high jump
- Marion Center’s Evan Risinger and United’s Andrew Payne and Bridger Blankenbicker in the pole vault
- Penns Manor’s Alex Polenik in the shot put and discus
- Purchase Line’s John Elick in the javelin
Indiana athletes competing in boys AAA:
- Jonathan Berzonsky in the 800 meters.
- Charlie Weber in the pole vault
