A record number of Pennsylvanians have registered to vote in the presidential election, and when you dig into the numbers both locally and statewide, since 2016, the number of registered Democrats has dropped while the number of registered Republicans has increased.
Statewide, registered Democrats have dropped by nearly 50,000 in the last four years, while Republicans have picked up 150,000 registered voters.
In Indiana County, Renda Broadcasting compared numbers from the 2016 General Election, the 2020 Primary Election, and the latest voter registration numbers from the county now that we are less than a week away from the election.
Indiana County registered Democrats have declined from 20,612 in November 2016 to 18,405 in the Spring Primary of this year, to 17,790 as of this past Monday. Meanwhile, registered Republicans have increased from 24,193 registered voters in 2016 to 25,085 in the 2020 Spring Primary to currently 27,206.
Since 2016’s General Election, Indiana County Democratic registration has dropped by 2,882 voters, while Republican registration has increased by 3,013 voters.
Heading into the 2016 presidential election, Republicans had a 3,581 registration edge over Democrats in Indiana County, and four years later that edge has risen to 9,416.
