TJ Watt was on the field working yesterday on the second day of Steelers OTAs. The All-Pro linebacker missed the first day of workouts.
The Steelers signed a veteran outside linebacker to back up Watt and Alex Highsmith. Markus Golden is an 8-year veteran who played the first four seasons of his career for Arizona before spending parts of two years with the New York Giants, and then returning to the Cardinals. The 32-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Steelers yesterday.
Golden becomes the third oldest Steeler on the roster behind 34-year-old Cam Heyward and 33-year-old Patrick Peterson.
Heyward spoke to the media yesterday and said he spent some time this offseason contemplating his future, but he said he has “a lot of football left” to play and he is gearing up for his 12th season in black and gold.
Getting ready for his first NFL season, second round draft choice Joey Porter Jr. was thrilled to work out as a Steeler after spending so much time in the locker room as a kid. His dad was a Steelers star and coach. Porter says he has already learned a lot from the team’s veterans, especially safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.
The Steelers secondary is beginning to take shape. Newly-acquired cornerback Patrick Peterson worked on the left side yesterday and Levi Wallace moved to the right side.
