Motorists who park at an Indiana Borough parking meter have a new option for paying, and they don’t even need coins.
The borough has announced the launch of PassportParking, a mobile app that allows meter payment from your smartphone. The service is already in use at IUP.
Indiana Borough Police Lieutenant Justin Schawl says it’s another convenience for drivers and should be a boon to Indiana’s business community, too. The app allows drivers to monitor their parking session to be sure their time doesn’t expire, extend the session using their phone, view their payment history, and receive email receipts.
The PassportParking system is one of a number of recent upgrades instituted by the Indiana Borough Parking Department. The changes include LED lighting and a new real-time computerized system for the parking garage in Water Street.
Indiana Borough has more than 600 on-street parking spaces in the downtown area, and another 511 spaces at the parking garage.
