The Indiana County NAACP is getting ready for its annual Juneteenth celebration.
The festivities will once again be held at Mack Park, and are slated for June 19th, with swimming to start at 2:00 PM and the program opening at 5:00 PM at the pavilion. This year’s theme is “Futurama: There Is No Turning Back.”
The event will feature a cookout, live entertainment, music and dancing, a healthy children’s fair, special guests and the dedication of a park bench in honor of longtime Indiana County NAACP officer and member Sandra K. Williams, formerly of Creekside. The celebration is part of the national recognition of Juneteenth, which celebrates the end of legalized slavery in the United States. In 2021, Juneteenth was recognized as a national holiday in the United States.
While the event is free and open to the public, registration is required. Those interested can call 724-464-9152, or they can register online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-annual-and-national-juneteenth-celebration-and-cookout-2023-tickets-638942904427
