The Detroit Tigers are looking for a new manager, and The Athletic reports that Pirates bench coach Don Kelly has interviewed for the job. The Pittsburgh native was hired as bench coach last year by the Bucs. He played for the Tigers for six seasons. Former Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire retired at the end of the season.
The Post Gazette’s Jason Mackey tweeted yesterday that Pirates’ prospect O’Neil Cruz’s court date is still not set for the September 21st crash that killed three people on a motorcycle in the Dominican Republic. Cruz’s car hit the motorcycle in the darkness after curfew and police initially said he was driving drunk. Mackey says the government is now saying alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.
