WPIAL
There is playoff baseball on WDAD this evening, as Indiana High takes on Blackhawk in a WPIAL Quad-A quarterfinal game at Seneca Valley High School. Blackhawk is the number two seed, having knocked off Thomas Jefferson, 5-4 in nine innings last Wednesday, and Indiana is seeded 7th after a 12-4 win over Laurel Highlands.
Indiana was eliminated from the WPIAL playoffs last year by Blackhawk. Coach Bill Thompson says the guys are eager to play the Cougars again.
Thompson says Gavin Homer will start the game for Indiana, but he is ready to throw any of his pitchers should they be needed.
The airtime for the game tonight on WDAD, 100.3 FM and 1450 AM, is 6:15.
DISTRICT 6
The Heritage Conference has had a tough first round so far in the District 6 baseball tournament, with all four Double-A teams losing on Friday, but the softball teams take their shot in the first round today.
In Double-A, third seed and Heritage Conference champion West Shamokin will host number 6 Southern Huntingdon. Number four Marion Center welcomes number five Cambria Heights in an all-Heritage Conference matchup. Number eight Homer-Center travels to play number-one Bald Eagle. The other game in Double-A is number seven Mount Union at number two Penns Valley.
One Heritage Conference team is alive in the Class A baseball playoffs. Portage visits top seed West Branch this afternoon.
