This weekend marks the birthday of Indiana’s native son, Jimmy Stewart, and the Jimmy Stewart museum is celebrating with a new temporary exhibit that will focus on one of Jimmy’s relatives.
The exhibit is called “Another Wonderful Life: The Art of Mary Stewart” and will take a look at the life and work of Jimmy’s sister, who was a talented artist who went to Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University). After her college days, museum president Janie McKirgan said that Mary Stewart was able to become an artist for a very prominent magazine.
Stewart also used her talents to draw political cartoons in support of the allied efforts during World War II, creating artwork for the organization Artists for Victory and the National War Poster Competition.
Members of the Stewart family will be on hand at the museum today to take a look at the new exhibit and at noon, family members will give remarks about Mary Stewart’s life.
The exhibit will run through the end of August.
