Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection announced on Wednesday that a project in Indiana Borough was among 14 projects that received the 2020 Governor’s Awards for excellence.
The award goes to projects submitted that encourage energy efficiency, emissions reduction, watershed restoration and protection, environmental education opportunities, and smart growth planning and design. The DEP oversees the selection process, judging the projects on several different environmental-based factors, including the project’s commitment to environmental justice.
The project in Indiana Borough that received the award was the renovations to the borough lot on 8th Street that happened in 2019. That project included the installation of a bike rack and repair station as part of the Indiana Borough end of the Hoodlebug Trail, electric vehicle charging stations, and a rain garden for storm water management.
