Like every other NFL team, the Steelers are dealing with a number of injured players as they prepare for Sunday’s showdown with the Cleveland Browns.
Among the missing at practice yesterday were tight end Eric Ebron, with a hand injury; center Maurkice Pouncey, with a foot injury; wide receiver Diontae Johnson, who has a sore lower back; and guard David DeCastro, who appears to be the most seriously hurt with an abdominal strain. Linebacker TJ Watt was limited with a shoulder injury, to go along with his sore knee.
JuJu Smith-Schuster has been given Wednesdays off to nurse a sore knee all season. Ben Roethlisberger and Stephon Tuitt also were given their regular Wednesday off.
Fullback Derek Watt and safety Marcus Allen were both full practice participants, and the team welcomed back Stefen Wisniewski, the guard who suffered a pectoral injury in Week One and has been on injured reserve since. He is still on the IR, but with his return, the Steelers now have 21 days to activate him.
Roethlisberger says he’s happy that as he continues to knock the rust off his game, he’s grateful that the team is still winning.
Big Ben says the Steelers will have their hands full on Sunday.
Defensive end Cam Heyward says the team is not even thinking about revenge for the Myles Garrett incident last season. He says the game is too important.
Former Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace said on Twitter yesterday that Le’Veon Bell should return to Pittsburgh or play for the Rams, Bears or Patriots. Bell was released by the Jets on Tuesday.
