The Ray Shetler, Jr. Murder Trial continued on Friday in Westmoreland County Court, with testimony coming from a state trooper that St. Clair Police Officer Lloyd Reed, Jr. fired first in the gunfight in 2015 that ended with Reed dying from a gunshot wound.
Friday morning, jurors were taken to New Florence to the scene of the shooting at the Ligonier Street home of Kristen Luther, who made the initial call to police for an incident of domestic violence. During the afternoon portion of the trial, State Trooper Michael Dzvonik testified that Kristin Luther insisted that officer Reed ordered Shetler to drop his rifle several times before Reed shot at Shetler. Another Trooper, Steven Colo, testified that he and his partner found Shetler walking near the Power Plant where a truck was stolen, and said that Shetler was “arrogant and belligerent” and was unable to comply with their commands as he was shot in the shoulder.
The trial continues on Monday with more testimony from the prosecution. District Attorney John Peck is seeking the death penalty in this case.
