At Monday night’s meeting, the Indiana School Board unanimously approved keeping the current educational model in place for the district for the second grading quarter.
The current model allows kindergarten through fifth graders to attend class five days a week; sixth graders to attend four days a week, with the fifth day of the school week set aside for online learning; and a blended format for the upper grade levels with half the student body attending Monday and Tuesday, the other half on Thursday and Friday, and online learning for the entire student body taking place on Wednesday.
Board member Julia Trimarchi-Cuccaro acknowledged during the meeting that it was a tough motion to decide on, but she felt that every element needed to be in balance.
Board member Tom Harley encouraged parents to reach out to the school’s administrators if their children are having problems with the online lessons.
In other business, the board approved an agreement to use YMCA Lifeguards at the Junior High Pool for swimming classes. Right now, special needs students are utilizing the pool and the district is looking at bringing swim lessons back in the second semester and giving them an opportunity to opt-out of swimming as part of gym class and take part alternate gym class activities.
