The Steelers have released cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon from their crowded secondary. Witherspoon started the first two games last season, but injured his hamstring in the third game against Cleveland and played only one half of one game the rest of the season, October 30th in an embarrassing loss to Philadelphia. His release saves the Steelers $4 million in salary cap space.
The Steelers yesterday officially announced the signings of quarterback Mason Rudolph, wide receiver Hakeem Butler, and cornerback Luq Barcoo. Rudolph was a free agent but chose to re-sign with the Steelers when he could not find a better opportunity to compete for a job with another NFL team. Butler and Barcoo both starred in the XFL this spring and have experience with other NFL teams.
Pittsburgh also claimed former Arizona defensive lineman Manny Jones off waivers from Arizona.
