The Penguins’ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton affiliate has signed 20-year-old forward Evan Vierling to a one-year contract.
Vierling was a New York Rangers fifth round draft pick in 2020 but did not sign with them. He was in the Columbus Blue Jackets training camp last year but was released and played the season in the Ontario Hockey League with the Barrie Colts, leading them in scoring with 35 goals and 60 assists in 60 games. Counting last season, Vierling has 75 goals and 138 assists in 218 junior hockey games.
Penguins free agent forward Nick Bonino had an assist yesterday in the United States’ 4-1 win over Austria at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship Tournament. The U.S. plays Denmark on Saturday.
