The Major League Baseball international signing period ends on October 15th, and the Pirates made their biggest signing yet yesterday: 19-year-old right-handed Taiwanese pitcher Po-Yu Chen, a 6-feet-2-inch, 187 pound right-hander who received a $1.25 million signing bonus.
Chen was a member of the 2019 Under-18 Taiwanese national team that won the world championship. He got the save in the gold medal-winning game.
The Pirates have signed 48 players in the international signing period, including 22 righty pitchers, seven lefty pitchers, ten infielders, seven outfielders, and two catchers.
